Our Programmes

NaDEET offers a variety of programmes to reach the aims of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through learning, teaching, capacity building, and practicing sustainability in a local and global context.

NaDEET's approach to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) not only increases awareness and knowledge but focusses on building environmental agency by teaching sustainability skills and environmental ethics for action. ESD is a priority for climate action empowerment and global citizenship. NaDEET’s unique educational experience extends to all ages as participants engage with concepts around sustainable development through the themes of energy, water, waste, and biodiversity and how they are directly linked to the climate crisis. Hands-on, experiential learning, teamwork and leadership skills are the foundation of NaDEET’s approach to understanding and addressing environmental issues that affect us as individuals and a global community.

Our philosophy to “practice what we teach” requires us to continuously learn, practice, and integrate sustainability into our workspaces, centres, programmes, and personal lives. It allows us, as teachers, to understand and model the applied concepts we share with participants.

What do our participants say about us?

A real eye-opener in terms of environmental awareness...  In school we teach nature conservation and water and energy conservation which learners only theoretically learn but here at NaDEET we could practically explore them.  At our school we do have a “papkombuis” for the vulnerable children and we struggle a lot to get wood to cook meals for the learners.  I can now proudly say that now we will put our paper and newspapers to good use by recycling them as firebricks and in this way curb deforestation.

With climate change as a universal challenge, I think this programme is a must for all schools so future leaders of Namibia can develop solutions to minimise the impact of climate change.
