UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation

We are honoured to have been awarded the UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation 2024 on 20 November 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.

Launched in 1991 through a generous donation from Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said of Oman, the prize recognizes, every two years, outstanding contributions to the management and conservation of the environment and raising awareness on the importance of environmental conservation for human well-being.
In recognition of NaDEET’s exceptional contributions to sustainable development, its leadership in national environmental education policy, and its innovative and practical approach to sustainability education, we strongly recommend NaDEET for the 2024 UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation. NaDEET’s work serves as a shining example of how education can address global environmental challenges and create a more sustainable future for all. - UNESCO

A Local Celebration – Namibia Celebrates NaDEET’s Achievements

The Namibia National Commission to UNESCO together with the local UNESCO Windhoek Office jointly celebrated NaDEET’s winning of the 2024 UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation. The event demonstrated the joint commitment of these organizations in promoting environmental and sustainable development. It also served as a call to action for all stakeholders to unite and collaborate in the shared mission of conserving the environment for future generations.

The event was well attended and had notable keynote speakers. The Honourable Higher Education Minister Itah Kandjii-Murangi, applauded NaDEET’s leading role in shaping Namibia’s environmental policies and stated that environmental conservation cannot be an isolated endeavour but must be integrated into Namibia's educational system in its whole.
