Educator Programme

"I did not realize recycling could be so easy"NaDEET Centre provides programmes for educators, community fieldworkers and any professionals in the field of education. Our programme is tailor-made to match the background and needs of the educators. The core theme of each programme is integrating the protection of our natural resources into schools, workplaces, communities and households.

PARTICIPANTS: Any type of educator (“training of trainers”) workshop that is relevant to the environment such as conservation, environmental education or sustainable living is more than welcome at NaDEET.  Educator participants can be from various fields such as formal teachers as well as informal education, community development and nature conservation.

PROGRAMME LENGTH: NaDEET offers a 4-day programme. It begins at 2 pm on Monday and ends at 9:30 am on Friday.

WHY DO THIS PROGRAMME?: For sustainable living to occur in schools, the workplace, community or home, we must practice it. This programme aims to provide the skills, knowledge and awareness about our own living habits and how they influence our education work and its successful outcome. Educators are viewed as role models by their learners regardless of age or context. As a model of “practicing what we teach” NaDEET provides the opportunity to explore and learn from such a “learning and living experience”.

SAMPLE ACTIVITIES: Activities will vary depending on the needs and background of the group. Some sample activities include: Environmental Problem Tree, Integrating Sustainable Living, The Sustainable Development Goals, Understanding Climate Change and Development, Biodiversity Dune Walk, Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency, Environmental Auditing, Linking Environmental Learning to the School Curriculum. ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITING: “Measuring out Enviro Footprint” an environmental audit will take place with every programme. The audit includes: water, energy, and waste. Participants’ use of these resources and production of rubbish is monitored throughout the programme. The results of the environmental audit are discussed with the group at the end of the programme.

SUSTAINABLE LEARNING: By living at NaDEET Centre, educator groups will be engaged in various sustainable living practices.

• Daily preparation of solar cooked meals gives participants the opportunity to learn more about this carbon-free, cooking method.

• Environmental auditing makes participants aware of their impact on our natural resources. By understanding how much we use and produce, can we begin to reduce our consumption.

• Bucket showers using solar-heated water gives participants a nice warm shower, while using only 10 litres of water or less.

COST: All programme costs include: programme, food, 3 solar-cooked meals and two tea times/day, accommodation, and relevant NaDEET publications. Depending on funding availability, NaDEET is able to provide assistance. Please contact us for a quote.
